Stefano Cacciatore, MD, received the Pierugo Carbonin Award for Best Young Researcher, recognizing his scientific activity during the 2024/2025 academic year.
The award was presented during the meeting celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Center for Aging and Longevity Medicine (Ce.M.I.) at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome.
Established in 2000, Ce.M.I. has developed an integrated approach to aging that brings together clinical care, research, prevention, and education. The anniversary meeting offered an opportunity to reflect on the Center’s first 25 years while looking ahead to emerging directions in geriatric medicine, geroscience, personalized prevention, and healthy longevity.
The scientific program brought together clinicians and researchers working across the biology of aging, frailty, functional decline, chronic disease, and innovative models of care for older adults. A dedicated session recognized the work of early-career researchers through the Pierugo Carbonin Award.
The award is named in memory of Pierugo Carbonin (1932–2021), a prominent Italian physician, a pioneer of modern Italian geriatrics, and founder of Ce.M.I. His work contributed substantially to the development of geriatric medicine as a clinical and academic discipline in Italy.
The award also marked a meaningful milestone in Dr. Cacciatore’s academic path, which began with his medical training at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and later developed through specialist training in Geriatric Medicine and research in aging.
