I study the factors that help people preserve health, function, and independence as they age.
Bio
I am a geriatrician and epidemiologist studying healthy aging, longevity, and the preservation of function across adulthood.
I trained at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome, where I earned my medical degree in 2021 and completed my residency in Geriatric Medicine in 2025, both with honors, and obtained a Master’s degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the same year.
From August 2024 to December 2025, I worked as an attending physician at Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS, combining inpatient care in an acute geriatric medicine ward with outpatient activities focused on the prevention of age-related diseases and the promotion of healthy longevity.
Working across acute care and prevention made me increasingly interested in a question that still guides my research: how can we preserve function, rather than simply treat disease, as people age?
In January 2026, I joined the Institute on Aging at the University of Florida as a Visiting Research Fellow, supported by the Ermenegildo Zegna Founder’s Scholarship. Since July 2026, I have also been undertaking a PhD by Prior Publication in Medicine at University College Cork.
A central focus of my work is intrinsic capacity, a core component of the World Health Organization healthy aging framework that describes the physical and mental capacities people can draw on in daily life. I study its determinants, clinical relevance, and relationship with functional outcomes across different aging trajectories.
My experience in community-based prevention has also led to a broader interest in population health and in the biological, behavioral, social, environmental, and policy factors that influence healthy aging and longevity.
I also serve as an Editor for BMC Geriatrics.

Research
Three connected areas guide my work.
Within the World Health Organization healthy aging framework, intrinsic capacity refers to the composite of an individual’s physical and mental capacities. I study its determinants, how it changes over time, and how it relates to functional ability, disability, and other health outcomes.
I study sarcopenia, muscle strength, physical performance, and the nutritional, metabolic, and biological factors that influence muscle health across adulthood. I am particularly interested in how changes in muscle health contribute to functional decline and adverse health outcomes.
I examine how chronic and non-communicable diseases intersect with functional health, and how behavioral, social, environmental, and policy factors shape health and longevity across populations.
